Glossary

To be sure we're all talking about the same thing, this Blog uses the following words as defined here:

Armageddon:    The last battle between good and evil, with Jesus Christ leading the angels of Heaven and the Christian Saint.; warring against the Devil, the Anti-Christ, the fallen angels, evil spirits, and all the Devil's followers.  This battle will occur a short time after the 1,000 year reign of Christ in the New Jerusalem, and just before the Lord's Day of Judgement.  The Battle of Armageddon will occur on a hill near Megiddo, an archaeological site on the plain of Esdraelon, south of present-day Haifa in Israel.

Bible:   the writings of God's prophets who were inspired by angels, the Holy Ghost, Jesus, or God.  There are a number of different versions of the Bible, of varying quality, consistency, and accuracy in the translation from the Greek and Hebrew originating manuscripts.  In 1604, England's King James commissioned 47 of the best language and biblical scholars from the Church of England to work on producing a bible in the English language.  These Church of England scholars started by finding the best available biblical source documents.  For the Old Testament, we have 9 different families of manuscripts in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and other languages.  For the New Testament, we have 5,800 complete or fragmented Greek manuscripts, 10,000 Latin manuscripts, and 9,300 manuscripts in various other ancient languages including Syriac, Slavic, Gothic, Ethiopic, Coptic and Armenian.  Ancient scribes could make a maximum of 2 mistakes per page when copying the Bible (burning the defective page if 3 or more errors were found by verifying every page against the original by reading it both forwards and backwards).  The Hebrew Bible has been preserved and transmitted by Jewish scribes, in Babylon and Palestine; these scribes in Palestine were known as the Masorites. The manuscript source for the King James Bible is the Masoretic Text, as copied from the St. Petersburg Manuscript dated about 916 A.D.  When the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, a portion of every book of the Tanakh was found, except for the book of Ester, including two complete versions of the book of Isaiah. When compared to the oldest existing Masoretic manuscripts, the much older Dead Sea scrolls, dated from 100-200 B.C., demonstrated a virtually flawless manuscript transmission over the eleven hundred-years, which separated the two copies. The Church of England scholars found that more than 5,309 original manuscripts of the New Testament from Antioch, all of which matched each other in 95% of text, had been used by other biblical scholars to create the Textus Receptus (Byzantine) in 1516 AD.  The Church of England scholars decided that Textus Receptus was the very best available source manuscripts to be used as the Greek New Testament source documents for the King James Version ("KJV").  Other scholars have also chosen Textus Receptus as the source of many other national Bibles in many different languages.  Other originating biblical manuscripts (ie. from Rome, Alexander Egypt, and others) that were considered by the Church of England scholars had been found to incorrectly add or take away entire biblical passages, and/or had more copying errors, and were therefore inferior sources when compared to the Textus Receptus.  The Church of England scholars worked for 7 years, carefully examining all originating manuscripts so as to identify all potential manuscript errors prior to translating the best into English (ie. collation).  The  resulting KJV was originally printed in 1611 AD, written in Olde English fonts, grammar, and spellings; but unfortunately, the poor ancient printing technology introduced some typographical errors.  The typographical errors in the 1611 KJV were corrected, and eventually the 1769 KJV was produced in a more modern English font, grammar, & spelling.   The 1769 KJV requires a Grade 6 level of English comprehension, while all other Bible versions (eg. ASV, CEB, ESV, NIV, NKJV, NLT, and more than 200 others) are more difficult to read.  ETM therefore recommends the 1769 KJV of the Bible as the best version of the Bible.  For more info, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzUyWOGCiS4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs4Fns_yXyE  and https://www.biblebelievers.com/Reagan_TALE3cities.html

Born Again:   In John 3:3-6, we find:  "Jesus answered him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' Nicodemus said to him, 'How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?' Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.'  ". hristian scholars believe that when someone becomes a True Christian (see below), they become filled with the Holy Spirit, and this helps them avoid sin, and will naturally result in righteous good works occurring.  In James 2:26, we learn: "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead."  From this we learn that merely proclaiming yourself to be Christian is not enough.  Believing in Jesus Christ in the same manner someone believes in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or their sports team will win this year is not enough; as this type of pseudo believe will earn you a 1-way ticket to Hell.  If you have true belief the way Jesus Christ defines it is likely as a True Christian who honors and keeps God's 13 Commandments for Christians (see below).

Christian:   Everyone who has truly repented their sins, and truly believes that:   a) Jesus Christ is the Son of God;   b) Jesus was unjustly accused, tried, convicted, and crucified;   c) Jesus willingly died on the cross so as to pay for the sins of all those who believe in Him;   d) Jesus was resurrected 3 days after he died, and ascended into Heaven, to sit on the right side of God;  e) Nobody can enter Heaven and everlasting life except through Jesus Christ; and f) Everybody who confesses and repents their sins, believes in all the above will be saved from Hell, and will go the Heaven for an everlasting life with God and Jesus Christ.  Note that there are many "Nominal Christians", who fail in one or more of these mandatory requirements, and are therefore not true Christians, and will therefore not be able to enter Heaven, and will therefore go to Hell.

ETM:   End Times Manitoulin, this Blog.

God:   the one and only creator and ruler of the universe, and the one source of all moral authority; the supreme being who has a covenant with all descendants of Adam & Eve, and especially the 12 Tribes of Israel.

God's 13 Commandments for Christians:   The 10 Commandments in the Bible, and the 613 commandments in the Torah are for Hebrews (12 Tribes).  The Bible has a similar, but different list of Commandments for Christians, as follows (see http://et-manitoulin.blogspot.com/2018/02/10-commandments-for-christians.html for references and more explanation):
  1. The Lord our God is one Lord.  Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.
  2. Obey God’s 10 Commandments.
  3. Thou shalt honour your father and mother.
  4. Love thy neighbour as thyself.
  5. Thou shalt not give false testimony.
  6. Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
  7. Do not worship idols.
  8. Do not curse God.
  9. Establish courts of justice.
  10. Do not commit murder.
  11. Do not commit adultery or sexual immorality (ie. incest, bestiality, homosexuality, fornication [ie. sex outside of marriage], etc.).
  12. Do not steal.
  13. Eat neither meat from an animal while it is still alive, nor meat torn by a wild animal, nor meat from things strangled, nor meat offered to idols (eg. Halal meat killed under prayers to the false god Allah, etc.), nor blood.

Hell:   A place separate and apart from God, where sinners will go for all eternity.  God cannot (or will not) look at nor be near sin or sinners.  Hell will not be pleasant for sinners.

Holy Ghost (a.k.a. Holy Spirit):   The Holy Ghost is one part of the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Ghost).  The Holy Ghost lives inside most humans, to varying degrees. The sacredness of the Holy Spirit is affirmed (Matthew 12:30–32, Mark 3:28–30 and Luke 12:8–10) which proclaim that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the Unforgivable Sin.

Jesus Christ:   the Son of God, conceived by the Holy Ghost and the virgin human Mary, who lived a perfect sinless life, then was questioned, tried, unjustly convicted, beaten, crucified, died, and in 3 days, was raised from the dead by God, and sits on the right hand of God forever.

Rapture:    When all true Christians, both currently living and previously dead, are snatched up to Heaven as the body of the Church of Jesus Christ, and will be with God for the 1,000 year Millennial in the New Jerusalem.

Judgement:   After the Battle of Armageddon, Jesus will gather up all of the defeated troops of the Devil, placing them in the winepress of wrath.  All Christians will stand before the throne of God where their sins and good works are weighed, and each person will receive their reward and/or punishment in accordance with their worldly actions and inactions.

Saints:   Christians who aspire to follow the  commandments of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ, and become part of the body of the Church of Jesus Christ. This is not the same as "saints" appointed by the Roman Catholic Church, or other similar religions.

Sin:   an action, inaction, or thought that is contrary to God's Law or Commandments.  All sin, except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, can be forgiven by God (see "Unforgivable Sin", below).

Sinner:    All humans, from Adam forward, are sinners; except Jesus Christ who lead a perfect sin-less life.

Tribulation:   the difficult times when plagues, famines, wars, pestilence, and other judgements are used by God to help humans choose to repent their sins, and/or help refine humans in preparation for eternal life in Heaven; and/or as judgement to punish sinners.

Unforgivable Sin:  If someone blasphemies against the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ said this was an unforgivable sin (see Mark 3:28-30 ).   A similar commentary is made in Matthew 12:30-32 and Luke 12:8-10
