Russia has recognized two regions of Ukraine as independant countries (Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics), and has signed a mutual defense agreement with each of them, and started moving Russian troops into these areas to support the "Russian irregular volunteers" who have been there for years.

Next, it's Ukraine's move in this game of nuclear 3-D chess.
Ukraine has already lost Crimea with barely a whimper, justified by a 2014 vote to leave Ukraine and join Russia accepted by 90% of the people living in Crimea (See: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Crimean_status_referendum%23
USA and NATO have been repeatedly poking at Russia, trying to provoke Russia into war. They will likely use this as an excuse to "help" Ukraine as if it was a NATO member, even though it isn't a member.
This will likely soon get out of hand, and WW3 will begin, and it will likely go nuclear.
