Many people have extensive Bible knowledge, far greater than mine.

Unfortunately,  intellectual knowledge of the Bible is necessary, but insufficient, for salvation through Jesus Christ.

Our hearts must be right for salvation.

For unrepentant sinners, God hates their evil deeds (Psalm 5:5), is angry at them every day (Psalm 7:11), hates their actions (Proverbs 6:18), hates their worship (Proverbs 15:8), hates their ways (Proverbs 15:9), hates their thoughts (Proverbs 15:26), is far from the wicked (Prov. 15:29), and refuses to hear their prayers for help (John 9:31, Isaiah 59:1-2, Lam 3:44, Prov 15:29, Jer. 7:16, Mica 3:4; Ezek 8:18, 1 Pet 3:12).

Prayers of an unrepented sinner are an abomination to God, and become sin in themselves (Prov 28:9, Ps 109:7).

God will not listen to the praise & worship coming from unrepentant sinners; instead, God hates & despises it (Is. 1:15; Amos 5:21-23).

Unlike the unrepentant sinners, God hears & loves the prayers & worship of the righteous (Prov. 15:29, Ps. 34:17-19, Ps. 66:19-20), & helps the righteous, obedient, children of God:

There are some people who dismiss, and totally ignore the Bible.

Others only pay attention to the red letters in the Bible, that record the words of Jesus Christ.

Others ignore, as not applicable, anything that occurred or was recorded prior to the stoning of Steven in Acts 7.  The alleged cutoff for others is the conversion of Saul in Acts 9.

I believe the whole Bible (OT and NT) is God's inspired Word, preserved by God throughout the ages, and is therefore absolute truth; that all of the Bible (eg. commandments, righteous examples, sinful examples, and all else) are eternally instructive for all; the King James Bible 1790 is the best representation of God's Word in the English language; the Bible defines and interprets itself; the Word must be studied in good faith and rightly divided (eg.   Exegesis, not Eisegesis, not out of context), and it is an anathma to add or subtract or misinterpret the Bible.

I suggest you should believe all of the Bible, and see all of it as applicable to your life.

As to the definition of sin for Christians, I suggest God's 26 Commandments for Christians as a good start, a summary of 300+ Bible verses, collated into 26 commandments for Christians. 

If you want to go to Heaven, and avoid Hell, you must fear God, know God, believe & trust God; confess & repent all your sins to God, and ask for God's forgiveness; fully believe in the true Jesus Christ; love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; love all others as you love yourself; forgive the trespasses of all others & hold no bitterness; renounce your self-righteousness, and only rely upon Jesus Christ for salvation; get Born Again; pray for & receive the fiery baptism of the Holy Spirit; seek to lovingly obey God's commandments; get all iniquity (wilful, pre-planned, or chronic sin) out of your life; hate all sin, & love all things that God loves; pick up your cross daily & follow Jesus by becoming a fisher of men, freely sharing your testimony, preaching the Gospel, doing good works for the greater glory of God; be a light to the world, and the salt of the Earth; don't do the Unforgiveable Sin; don't take the Mark of the Beast, and don't worship the Beast, nor his image.

You must have a deep, intimate, lovingly obedient relationship with Jesus Christ as your God, LORD, Messiah, Saviour, King, and friend.
